In mid-2010, plans to create a new low-cost virtual airline were announced, with the focus and motive being realism. There were few airlines that could provide a realistic environment, whilst offering pilots a unique experience. It was decided that the airline would exclusively operate Airbus A320 family aircraft, which, in the real world, is ideally suited to the low-cost model. In September 2010, freshJet was formed.
Today, freshJet focuses on the same goal that inspired the launch in 2010. We operate domestic and international flights, varying from the short forty minute hop between Glasgow and Belfast to our new long-haul service to Orlando in the USA. Our fleet remains to be all-Airbus, consisting of the A319, A320 and A330.
As part of our strive to offer the unique experience that we do, we offer a variety of features that are exclusive to freshJet. An example of this is our state-of-the-art Crew Portal system, which is designed for mobile devices such as tablets. This serves as an Electronic Flight Bag, specifically for freshJet flights. A second example is the customised Operational Flight Plan (OFP). This gives pilots utmost flexibility when planning their flights, and generates a flight plan for printing. In the future, we hope to eliminate the need to print this (thus saving paper) by incorporating this into the Crew Portal, so that pilots can view their flight plans electronically.
